Authorities have identified the cyclist who tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in a Tuesday night crash in Palm Desert as 62-year-old Jay Groth of Indio, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The collision between the cyclist and a vehicle occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Cook Street and County Club Drive.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies discovered Groth unresponsive in the roadway, suffering from severe injuries, the sheriff’s department reported.
Groth was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center, but tragically passed away from his injuries approximately an hour after the crash, according to the coroner.
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, the sheriff’s department confirmed. No arrests have been announced in connection with the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation by the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station.
