Tragedy struck late Monday night when a 38-year-old motorist lost his life and his passenger sustained injuries after their pickup truck careened off a road north of Moreno Valley and collided with a tree, as reported by authorities on Tuesday.
The victim, identified as Adrian Magallanes from Redlands, met his untimely demise around 11:20 p.m. on San Timoteo Canyon Road, near Deadwood Court, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Officer Jonathan Torres of the CHP disclosed to City News Service that Magallanes was traveling northbound in his 2005 Nissan Titan along the two-lane roadway when, for reasons yet undetermined, the vehicle veered off course and crashed into the tree.
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, where they pronounced Magallanes deceased. His front-seat passenger, whose identity remains undisclosed, sustained moderate injuries and was promptly transported to a regional trauma center for medical attention. Fortunately, the passenger is expected to make a full recovery.
“At this juncture, it remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the incident,” stated Torres.
