RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Kenneth Macho, a 75-year-old resident of San Diego, was fatally injured in a crash on Thursday afternoon along state Route 74, just west of Palm Desert.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:32 p.m. at mile marker 88 of SR-74, as reported by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau.
Macho was driving a Subaru Crosstrek eastbound on SR-74 when, for reasons yet to be determined, he crossed over solid yellow lines and collided with a westbound Ford tow truck, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Tragically, Macho succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash. His female passenger sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the tow truck was also taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, as confirmed by the CHP.
The CHP stated that alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
Following the incident, both directions of SR-74 were closed for approximately three hours to facilitate the CHP’s investigation.
