PALM SPRINGS, CA — Joel Grimes, a 66-year-old resident of Lake Whales in Central Florida, passed away on Monday after sustaining injuries in an overturned tanker crash near a Cactus City rest stop nearly one week earlier.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Bureau confirmed Grimes as the victim who succumbed to his injuries following the crash.
The incident unfolded when officers responded to a call reporting an overturned 40-foot big rig tanker carrying lemon juice on Interstate 10 at 6:45 a.m. last Wednesday. The truck was found obstructing eastbound lanes, as per California Highway Patrol’s Indio station.
Grimes was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where he was pronounced dead at 12:49 p.m. five days later, according to the coroner. His identity was disclosed after next of kin notification.
