COACHELLA VALLEY, CA — Giovanny Michel Solis Rivero, a 27-year-old man, has been charged with DUI gross vehicular manslaughter following a Christmas Eve crash on Interstate 10. The collision resulted in the death of his female passenger. Rivero is scheduled for arraignment at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
The crash occurred around 2:05 a.m. when the silver Toyota Camry driven by Rivero crashed into the guardrail, facing west under the Jefferson and Indio Boulevard overpass, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
CHP public information officer David Torres stated that the driver was heading westbound on Interstate 10 in Indio when he made an unsafe right turn, resulting in a collision with the guardrail. The impact caused fatal injuries to the passenger.
The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the deceased passenger as 35-year-old Teresa Herrera of Desert Hot Springs. She was pronounced dead at 2:20 a.m.
Giovanny Michel Solis Rivero is currently held at the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio on $75,000 bail.
