RIVERSIDE, CA — Criminal charges are being pursued against a man suspected of a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the tragic death of 53-year-old Donna Machelle Washington in Woodcrest, near Riverside. Authorities announced on Wednesday that charges are being sought against the driver, whose identity has not been disclosed to the public.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of November 29 when Washington was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup while walking along Van Buren Boulevard, just west of Canyon View Drive. After three weeks of investigation, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was able to locate and interview the suspected driver.
Based on the statements provided by the driver during the interview, investigators filed a request for charges with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. The status of the filing and specific charges were not immediately available.
The CHP indicated that the motorist allegedly allowed his vehicle to veer onto the right shoulder, colliding with Washington, and then fled the scene. While the suspect has not been booked into jail, authorities are actively pursuing legal actions against him. Anyone with additional information related to the investigation is urged to contact the CHP’s Riverside office at 951-637-8000.
