Temecula, CA — A fatal two-vehicle crash in Temecula has left a 20-year-old Winchester man dead and two others injured, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Friday in the southbound lanes of Winchester Road, just north of Pourroy Road. Witnesses reported that the 20-year-old, driving a Honda Accord, allegedly made an illegal U-turn over two sets of solid double yellow lines.
The Honda Accord collided head-on with a black Nissan Rogue, driven by a 56-year-old man accompanied by a 17-year-old boy, both from Oceanside, who were traveling southbound on Winchester Road.
CHP and Cal Fire responded to the scene, temporarily blocking both southbound lanes on Winchester Road. The Accord driver, not wearing a seatbelt, was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The driver and passenger of the Nissan Rogue were also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
The CHP’s Temecula-area office is overseeing the investigation, and preliminary indications suggest that impaired driving may have been a factor in the tragic crash.
