RIVERSIDE, CA — On November 8, 2023, at 5:44 p.m., the Riverside Police Department and Riverside Fire Department responded to a concerning incident at the Mission Inn Hotel and Spa Parking Structure, located at 3641 6th Street. The response was prompted by reports of a car that had gone through a wall and was left hanging off the edge of the parking garage.
Upon arrival, the Riverside Fire Department swiftly called for technical rescue assistance to extricate the two occupants from the precarious situation. Firefighters efficiently rescued both individuals from the vehicle.
Subsequently, both occupants were transported to a local hospital, reportedly with injuries of an unknown nature but deemed non-life-threatening.
According to the police, preliminary findings indicate that the driver accidentally pressed the gas pedal while having the vehicle in drive instead of reverse. This caused the vehicle to breach the chain barrier and teeter on the edge, colliding with a cement wall, and preventing a more severe fall.
The involvement of drugs or alcohol in the incident is yet to be determined.
