FRENCH VALLEY, CA — The tragic incident on Tuesday that claimed the life of a 45-year-old Murrieta woman on Winchester Road in French Valley has been identified by the coroner. The victim, Kristy Tibbs, lost her life in the crash, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The fatal crash occurred as Tibbs was traveling southbound on Winchester Road, just south of Skyview Road, around noon.
According to the CHP, “For reasons which are under investigation,” Tibbs made “an unsafe turning movement to the left,” causing her 2023 Chevrolet Volt to swerve into the northbound lanes.
The Volt then proceeded towards the shoulder of the northbound lanes, colliding with a tree and light pole before rolling over and coming to a rest on its wheels.
The CHP has not determined the speed at which Tibbs was driving at the time of the crash.
Despite the efforts of first responders to save Tibbs, she was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The CHP confirmed that she was wearing a safety belt.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and there were no reported injuries besides the fatality.
The CHP is seeking information from any witnesses who have not yet spoken to the agency. Those with information are urged to contact the CHP’s Temecula Area office at 951-466-4300.
