ESCONDIDO, CA — A fatal crash on Tuesday morning on Interstate 15 claimed the life of a 19-year-old man from Murrieta.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the young man was driving a Chevrolet Silverado northbound on I-15 in unincorporated Escondido. Accompanying him was a 19-year-old woman.
The collision occurred around 6:35 a.m., involving the Chevrolet Silverado and a Ford F-150. The incident took place south of Deer Springs Road.
“The Ford F-150 spun out and came to rest in the center divider, while the Chevrolet veered to the right shoulder where it overturned numerous times, coming to rest upon its wheels,” reported the CHP.
The Murrieta man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she is expected to survive.
The driver of the Ford, a 24-year-old man from Descanso, was not injured, according to the CHP.
The agency stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
