A serious injury resulted from a three-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in Coachella on Monday morning, May 20, 2024.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred around 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street and Avenue 50.
According to initial reports, a vehicle had become disabled in the eastbound No. 1 lane of Avenue 50. A second vehicle stopped in front of it to offer assistance. Shortly after, a third vehicle collided with the first vehicle, propelling it into the second vehicle.
A pedestrian, who was situated between the two stopped vehicles at the time, sustained major injuries. The victim was airlifted to a nearby hospital. It remains unclear whether the injured pedestrian was one of the drivers, a passenger, or a bystander.
Authorities have not yet released further information and are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident and the events leading up to it.
No other injuries have been reported, and the investigation is ongoing.
