RIVERSIDE, CA — Three Riverside County sheriff’s deputies sustained injuries Thursday morning, Feb. 8, following a collision with a car whose driver was later arrested in the Riverside area, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred at 9:26 a.m. at the intersection of La Sierra and Victoria Avenues, as reported by Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Garrett Coryell.
Officer Javier Navarro, a CHP spokesperson, indicated that one deputy suffered a broken collarbone, while two others experienced pain as a result of the crash.
The driver of the car involved in the collision also complained of pain. All four individuals were subsequently transported to Riverside Community Hospital for medical treatment, as confirmed by Coryell.
Preliminary investigations by the CHP suggest that the car was traveling westbound on Victoria when it disregarded a red light, colliding with the southbound sheriff’s van on La Sierra, stated Navarro. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
The specific type of van the deputies were traveling in at the time of the collision was not immediately disclosed. The Sheriff’s Department deferred inquiries to the CHP for further details.
