In Phelan, San Bernardino County, a man was injured on Sunday, January 21, when the car he was driving crashed through a crossing gate, came to a stop on the railroad tracks, and was subsequently struck by a freight train. The incident occurred around 1:09 p.m. near the crossing on Phelan Road and White Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the man’s passenger, an older woman, was unharmed. The man, described as “older,” was airlifted to Antelope Valley Medical Center in Lancaster.
The CHP is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision, including why the driver did not stop for the crossing gate and warning lights.
