San Diego, CA – On December 29, 2024, at approximately 7:54 AM, a fire of unknown origin broke out in a mechanic’s yard and junkyard at 945 Heritage Rd.
The fire quickly escalated, prompting a 1st Alarm response from Chula Vista and San Diego Firefighters. Heavy fog complicated efforts, making it difficult for crews to locate and access the blaze. Explosions were reported as firefighters worked to suppress the fire.
Initially, the fire involved seven vehicles at the mechanic’s yard. However, it soon spread to an adjacent junkyard, igniting three additional vehicles and a trash dumpster.
Firefighters faced significant challenges securing a water supply, as the nearest fire hydrant was approximately one mile away. Water tankers and additional engines were brought in to provide adequate resources to combat the flames.
No injuries have been reported, and it is unclear if the Multi-Agency Support Team (MAST) will investigate the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
