Houston, TX — A tragic crash occurred early Christmas morning, December 25, 2024, at 12:42 AM on the westbound Sam Houston Feeder at Wilson Road, resulting in the death of a male driver and severe injuries to his female passenger.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Fire, and EMS units responded to reports of a major collision involving live power lines. Upon arrival, they discovered a solo vehicle that had struck a power pole. The impact caused the transformers to fall onto the vehicle, igniting a fire.
Two occupants were trapped inside the vehicle, and firefighters had to wait for the power lines to be de-energized before they could safely extinguish the flames. Despite efforts to rescue them, the male driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The female passenger, who suffered burns to over 70% of her body, was extricated and rushed to a nearby trauma center in critical condition.
It is currently unknown whether speed or alcohol played a role in the crash. Although it was not raining at the time of the incident, the wet road conditions may have contributed to the collision.
As of now, all westbound lanes of Sam Houston Feeder are closed for the duration of the investigation. Further details will be provided as the authorities continue their inquiry into the cause of the crash.
