On December 17, 2024, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Houston Police Department (HPD) and Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to reports of a major crash at 900 Kirby.
First responders discovered a solo vehicle that had left the roadway, struck a tree, and then hit a second tree, pinning the driver. Firefighters upgraded the call to a heavy rescue assignment and worked to extricate the occupant from the wreckage. Despite their efforts, the driver, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The incident is under investigation, and the Vehicle Crimes Division (VCD) is en route to gather further details. It is believed that the driver was traveling more than the speed limit, as fog and road conditions did not initially appear to contribute to the crash. River Oaks Patrol may have been the first to come across the scene.
