In the early hours of December 12, 2024, at approximately 3:15 a.m., a semi-truck crashed into a Caltrans vehicle within a construction zone on the northbound 605 Freeway at the 60 Freeway in South El Monte.
The collision caused the semi-truck to catch fire. The female semi-driver sustained minor injuries and was seen walking at the scene. The Caltrans driver was transported to a hospital via ambulance for evaluation.
The transition ramp was closed following the incident, although two lanes of the northbound 605 Freeway remained open to traffic.
CHP and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel handled the scene and are investigating the incident. Further updates on the conditions of the individuals involved and the cause of the crash are pending.
