A late-night high-speed chase through San Diego and Spring Valley concluded early Sunday morning with a crash and the arrest of five suspects, according to San Diego Police.
The pursuit began around 1:53 AM when officers attempted to stop a silver Nissan Altima at 4th Avenue and Fern Street in downtown San Diego. The driver fled recklessly, at times driving the wrong way. After entering SR-94 East, ground units lost sight of the vehicle, but SDPD’s helicopter, ABLE, tracked it to Spring Valley.
Officers tried another stop near Campo Road, but the pursuit continued westbound on SR-94, ending when the Altima crashed into a light pole at the College Avenue off-ramp. The five occupants fled on foot but were located with the help of the helicopter.
One suspect, hiding on an embankment near the College Grove Mall, surrendered peacefully after a brief standoff that closed all SR-94 lanes. No injuries were reported, and an investigation is ongoing to determine charges against the suspects.
