A wrong-way collision on Fairmont Avenue near Montezuma Road early Sunday morning resulted in minor injuries and left both drivers shaken, according to San Diego Police. The incident occurred around 12:58 AM when a male driver, unfamiliar with the area, mistakenly followed another vehicle after leaving a concert, causing both cars to travel the wrong way on Fairmont Avenue.
The male driver’s vehicle collided head-on with a Ford Bronco, estimated to be traveling at 60 to 70 miles per hour, according to witnesses. The 17-year-old female driver of the Bronco and her passenger were visibly shaken, with the passenger being transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities have confirmed that DUI is not believed to be a factor in the crash, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are working to determine how both drivers ended up on the wrong side of the road. Motorists are urged to remain cautious, especially late at night, and to pay close attention to road signs to prevent similar accidents.
