A routine traffic stop in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter escalated early Sunday morning when police bicycle units attempted to pull over a black Cadillac sedan for a license plate violation. The incident began around 12:30 AM, with the vehicle fleeing and running a red light in an effort to evade officers.
San Diego Police Department (SDPD) units pursued the car, safely stopping it near 15th and G Street with assistance from a nearby cruiser. Officers conducted a felony hot stop, detaining a male driver and a female passenger. While the passenger was released at the scene, the driver was arrested on multiple charges, including evading police.
A search of the vehicle revealed drugs and drug paraphernalia in the center console. Authorities have not disclosed the driver’s identity or the specifics of the substances found. The SDPD investigation is ongoing.
Residents are reminded to stay alert and report suspicious activity during the busy holiday season in the Gaslamp Quarter.
