A fire erupted at a commercial building in South Los Angeles on the evening of November 30, 2024, at around 8:35 p.m. The structure, located at Florence Avenue and Avalon, houses a tire sales business, a mechanic shop, and a welding shop. The blaze was possibly sparked by a welding tool, according to a worker’s report to the owner.
Firefighters battled the flames for 37 minutes, encountering difficulty reaching residual flames behind tires that had to be manually moved. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) blocked off the intersection to traffic as firefighters worked to contain the fire.
The building, a stand-alone tire shop constructed in 1958, is less than 1,400 square feet. Despite the intensity of the fire, no injuries were reported, and no other structures were damaged. The quick response of 42 firefighters ultimately prevented further damage.
