At sunrise on Friday, a beachgoer walking along Marine Street Beach spotted a capsized boat approximately 100 yards offshore. Responding to the call, San Diego City Lifeguards identified the vessel as an 18-foot panga boat, with only its tip visible above the waterline.
Several gas cans were discovered washed ashore nearby, raising concerns about the incident’s origins. Lifeguards conducted a thorough search of the area but did not find any victims or occupants.
Panga boats are often associated with human smuggling operations originating from Mexico, adding a potential layer of gravity to the situation. The U.S. Coast Guard has been tasked with removing the gas cans and will likely investigate further to determine the circumstances surrounding the event.
No injuries or arrests have been reported as of now.
