A suspected DUI driver was fatally shot by Brea police officers on Thursday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
Officers were alerted around 4:42 PM about a possible DUI driver near Lambert Road and the 57 Freeway, according to the Brea Police Department. Responding to the scene, officers discovered a vehicle matching the description stopped against a retaining wall in the westbound lanes of Lambert Road, just east of the freeway.
While engaging with the driver, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
