A serious car accident early Wednesday morning left a woman critically injured after the vehicle she was in collided with a traffic light pole near Bloomfield Avenue and Firestone Boulevard.
The incident occurred around 3:23 AM when a male driver lost control of the car, crashing into the pole. Deputies from the Norwalk Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene shortly before 3:30 AM, where they found the driver outside the vehicle with minor injuries. His female passenger, however, was trapped in the front seat and unresponsive.
Firefighters arrived and requested additional resources to extricate the woman from the wreckage. It took approximately 20 minutes to free her before she was rushed to UCI Medical Center in critical condition.
The male driver was treated for minor injuries on-site but was not transported to the hospital. Deputies are currently interviewing him to determine the circumstances leading to the crash. At this time, it is unclear if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
