Deputies initially attempted to stop an older model Ford Expedition due to expired registration tags. However, the driver refused to yield, triggering a chase that reached speeds of 80 to 90 mph on Interstate 5. The pursuit covered significant distance, ending near La Costa Boulevard in Carlsbad.
Deputies executed a high-risk stop, taking the driver into custody at gunpoint without incident. Authorities reported no injuries or property damage during the chase. While alcohol is not suspected as a factor, further evaluation of the suspect’s condition is ongoing.
