A tragic single-vehicle crash late Wednesday night left one man dead and a woman with minor injuries at the intersection of Palos Verdes Boulevard and South Catalina Avenue, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:17 p.m. when the vehicle struck a light pole and caught fire. Emergency responders from the Redondo Beach Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze, according to Redondo Beach Police Lt. Mark Valdivia.
The driver, an unidentified man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a female passenger was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of her injuries. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the victim and notify his next of kin.
