San Diego, CA – A fire at an apartment complex on University Avenue on Tuesday night, November 19, 2024, left several residents displaced due to extensive smoke and water damage.
The fire ignited at approximately 10:31 PM in a unit at 1751 University Avenue. Thanks to the swift action of firefighters, the blaze was confined to a single bedroom, preventing further destruction.
During the incident, one resident sustained burns to their foot while attempting to extinguish a burning blanket. The individual was promptly transported to the UCSD Burn Center for treatment.
Despite containment of the fire, significant damage to multiple units rendered them uninhabitable. Several residents were forced to evacuate and spend the night without their homes. The Red Cross provided assistance, offering temporary housing and essentials to those affected.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
