Houston, TX – A tragic accident early Saturday morning claimed the life of a man on 288 Southbound between Almeda Genoa and Beltway 8. The incident occurred at approximately 1:32 a.m. and involved an older model Corvette and an 18-wheeler.
According to witnesses, the Corvette was traveling at a high speed when it rear-ended the 18-wheeler. The impact caused the sports car to veer into the center median divider wall, where it came to a halt. A minor fire broke out upon impact, but quick-thinking citizens attempted to extinguish the flames. Authorities believe the fatality resulted from the crash rather than the fire.
The driver of the Corvette, a male whose identity remains unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 18-wheeler’s driver, a female, sustained neck and back injuries but is expected to recover.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash, though excessive speed appears to have been a contributing factor. Further details about the deceased man’s identity are pending notification of next of kin.
