A tragic accident on westbound Highway 94 in San Diego led to the death of a male driver and significant traffic disruptions on Wednesday morning. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed before the driver attempted to exit onto State Route 15.
According to initial reports, the driver lost control while navigating the off-ramp at high speed, causing the car to crash into the wall of the overpass. The impact sent the vehicle flying off the over-crossing, where it landed on the right shoulder of eastbound Hwy 94.
The driver, who was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders. Witnesses at the scene indicated that the car caught fire following the crash, which added further complications for emergency crews.
In response to the accident, authorities temporarily closed all eastbound lanes of Highway 94 as well as the over-crossing from westbound Hwy 94 to facilitate the emergency response and subsequent cleanup. Traffic was diverted to surrounding routes, and drivers in the area faced significant delays.
The incident remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the exact cause of the accident.
