Late Saturday evening, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) responded to an incident at the intersection of 54th Street and Broadway in South Los Angeles. According to police reports, officers initially arrived in response to an unknown call from the area. The nature of the call remains undisclosed.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to detain a woman for reasons that have yet to be confirmed. As officers engaged with the individual, onlookers began to gather, escalating the situation. In response to the growing crowd, the LAPD called for backup, and officers quickly formed a skirmish line to maintain control of the scene.
As tensions heightened, officers reportedly engaged in physical confrontations with multiple individuals on-site, prompting a “help call” to be issued. Additional units from multiple divisions responded to the escalating incident, intensifying the police presence.
Witnesses reported seeing officers with rifles positioned in front of the 54th Smoke Shop, where police made loud callouts to individuals in the area. Following the standoff, at least three people were taken into custody. The LAPD has not released further details about the arrests or the charges filed against those detained.
