On the night of October 17, 2024, at approximately 10:40 p.m., the Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to reports of a significant commercial fire near Monroe and Airport in Houston. Firefighters arrived to find a large commercial complex engulfed in flames. Due to the intensity of the fire, the response was upgraded to a 2-alarm fire about 10 minutes after arrival.
Roughly one hour into the operation, a mayday alert was issued when a firefighter became separated from their crew. Thankfully, the firefighter was located within seconds, and the mayday was called off shortly after.
Multiple buildings within the complex have been affected, and HFD crews remain in defensive mode as they continue to battle the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and firefighters are expected to be on the scene for an extended period to fully extinguish the flames.
