A tense standoff between deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lakewood station and an armed suspect concluded late Tuesday night at approximately 11:45 PM. The incident took place near Carson Avenue and Carfax Avenue, close to Heartwell Park.
The standoff began after the suspect was wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery at the nearby Carwood Shopping Center. Law enforcement officials responded swiftly, deploying a Bearcat vehicle to assist in the situation. However, the suspect managed to evade capture initially, prompting deputies to initiate a pursuit.
As the chase unfolded, deputies utilized less lethal measures, firing pepper balls into the suspect’s vehicle in an attempt to subdue him. The suspect exited the vehicle, accompanied by his dog, and fled on foot. Law enforcement pursued him, eventually apprehending the suspect. However, during the chase, the suspect and his dog were both shot.
While the suspect is now in custody, the dog remains unaccounted for, and authorities are urging the public to report any sightings of the animal.
