In the early hours of October 6, a high-speed chase unfolded across several San Diego neighborhoods, culminating in the arrest of a suspect linked to a car burglary. A San Diego Police Department (SDPD) officer first spotted a white truck running multiple red lights at intersections along El Cajon Boulevard in the City Heights area. The driver, a male, then turned north onto I-15, switching off his headlights as he sped through city streets at approximately 120 mph.
The pursuing officer caught up with the suspect on the eastbound I-8, where the driver attempted to evade capture by exiting onto Waring Road, only to re-enter the freeway shortly after. He continued his escape by traveling eastbound at high speeds through heavy fog before making his way back onto westbound I-8. Despite thick fog, the chase led to the del Cerro neighborhood after the driver exited at College Avenue.
At this point, officers lost sight of the vehicle due to the dense fog. However, they quickly saturated the area in search of the suspect. The male was found walking on Rockhurst Drive, and upon seeing the officers, he tried to hide in nearby bushes. The suspect eventually surrendered without further incident.
Upon searching the area, officers located the truck a few blocks away on Capri Drive. Investigators discovered that the vehicle had been involved in a car burglary on September 25, 2024.
The suspect is now in custody, and further investigation is underway.
