Late on Saturday night, a high-speed street race involving three vehicles on the I-10 led to an intense police pursuit, culminating in the arrest of two drivers near Priest Drive and Southern Avenue in Tempe.
According to a Department of Public Safety (DPS) sergeant, a trooper initially spotted three vehicles—two black Dodge Challengers and a white Dodge Charger—racing westbound on the I-10 near 35th Avenue. When the white Challenger appeared to swerve toward the trooper, the officer initiated a traffic stop and successfully detained the driver.
The other two vehicles, however, continued southbound onto the South Mountain Loop 202. Phoenix Police’s helicopter tracked the black Dodge Charger as it fled, with ground units keeping a safe distance.
The pursuit stretched across multiple highways before the Charger stopped at a parking garage near the intersection of Priest Drive and Southern Avenue. Police units from DPS, Phoenix, and Tempe quickly converged on the area. The driver attempted to flee on foot into a nearby neighborhood, but officers swiftly apprehended him after he entered a backyard.
Both drivers are now in custody, and investigations are ongoing regarding the street racing activity and potential charges.
