On the afternoon of October 3, 2024, at around 4:17 p.m., a fire broke out at a mobile home located at 21416 Vista Caballero in Perris. Cal Fire, Riverside County, along with units from Perris and Mead Valley, responded swiftly to the scene after reports of a structure fire with possible occupants trapped inside.
Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke billowing from the mobile home. Entering the residence in rescue mode, they conducted a primary search for any individuals inside. While no humans were found, two dogs were discovered, both suffering from severe smoke inhalation. Firefighters administered oxygen to the animals, managing to save one dog. Unfortunately, the second dog could not be revived and perished at the scene.
One man was transported from the scene with smoke inhalation injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the Red Cross was called to assist six displaced residents and several other dogs affected by the blaze.
