On the early morning of September 30, 2024, a pharmacy in Wilmington, located at 235 E Anaheim, was broken into by a group of suspects. At approximately 4:30 a.m., three individuals in a white Mercedes were seen fleeing the scene as officers from the LAPD arrived. The suspects were pursued by law enforcement, leading to a multi-agency response involving the LAPD, Long Beach PD, and LA Port Police.
LAPD successfully apprehended four of the six suspects at the scene, while Long Beach PD is believed to have captured a fifth individual. The scene remained under the control of LA Port Police until LAPD officers could clear the building and ensure no other suspects were inside. There are unconfirmed reports that the suspects may have attempted to tunnel into an adjacent pharmacy.
Tragically, one of the burglary suspects died after jumping from a bridge during the pursuit. The suspect’s body was discovered in the water by a boat, leading to the temporary closure of the eastbound lanes of the bridge. LAPD officers searched the area beneath the bridge for any remaining suspects. The westbound traffic on the bridge remained open, and authorities expected the eastbound lanes to reopen within 30 minutes.
In total, six suspects have been arrested, with five more still believed to be outstanding, according to LAPD estimates. The investigation is ongoing as police work to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the burglary.
