A serious crash occurred on the morning of September 29, 2024, on northbound Interstate 5, just south of Mile of Cars Way. Witnesses reported that the driver of a Camaro was speeding and weaving through traffic before losing control of the vehicle and crashing into a palm tree on the right shoulder of the highway.
The impact was severe, with the car’s engine being ejected from the vehicle and catching fire between two nearby palm trees. Good Samaritans quickly rushed to the scene in an attempt to assist the trapped driver, but the wreckage left him unable to escape.
Shortly after, firefighters arrived and began extinguishing the fire while others worked to free the driver from the wreckage. It took approximately 20 minutes to extricate the man, who sustained major injuries. Despite severe bleeding from his abdomen, he was conscious and was rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Authorities from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) are investigating the incident and believe that driving under the influence may have contributed to the crash.
Further updates on the driver’s condition and the investigation are pending.
