Phoenix, AZ – In the early hours of September 28, 2024, a charter bus collided with the center divider on eastbound I-10 near 7th Street, prompting a major emergency response. Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZ DPS) troopers responded to the scene at approximately 5:30 AM, discovering a passenger ejected from the bus, lying critically injured on the left shoulder of the highway.
Phoenix Fire crews quickly arrived, administering CPR to the ejected passenger, who was transported to a local trauma center in extremely critical condition. Additional fire teams were called to the scene, leading to a first alarm medical response due to the high number of injured passengers.
A total of 17 passengers were transported to various trauma centers across the city, as emergency personnel triaged the scene. Several lanes of eastbound I-10 remain closed as DPS troopers continue their investigation into the cause of the crash.
There is no immediate estimate on when the scene will be cleared. Traffic delays are expected as crews work to manage the situation.
