Los Angeles, CA (CNS) – Authorities are actively searching for the gunman responsible for a shooting that left five women and one man injured in the Vermont Knolls area of South Los Angeles. The incident occurred on September 25, 2024, shortly after 3:00 PM at the intersection of 74th and Figueroa streets.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), officers from the 77th Street Community Police Station responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, they discovered the victims suffering from gunshot wounds, primarily affecting their lower extremities.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims, aged between 36 and 62, were simply walking along the street when three suspects in a vehicle opened fire before fleeing the scene. Detective Dean Vinluan of the LAPD stated, “At this early stage of the investigation, detectives do not believe any of the six individuals were the intended targets.”
While the area has been plagued by gang violence, LAPD officials cautioned that it remains uncertain whether this shooting was gang-related. Los Angeles Fire Department personnel transported the victims to a local hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Eyewitness accounts and video footage captured at the scene revealed a dark-colored vehicle parked near the shooting site, with visible bullet holes in the windshield. Reports indicate that police recovered over 25 bullet casings from the location.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact detectives at the 77th Street Community Police Station at 323-786-5420.
