A high-speed chase in Tolleson early Sunday morning ended with a dramatic crash and the arrest of a suspect. According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), a trooper attempted to pull over a black 2-door BMW traveling at over 100 mph westbound on I-10 near 35th Avenue. The driver of the BMW refused to stop, leading to a pursuit by multiple DPS troopers.
The suspect fled at high speeds, making it difficult for the troopers to keep up. The chase continued until the suspect exited the I-10 at 91st Avenue, where the BMW crashed into a Toyota hatchback at the intersection. The collision caused significant damage but fortunately, no one required hospitalization.
Following the crash, the suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. Troopers pursued him northbound on 91st Avenue and managed to apprehend him near McDowell Road with the help of a taser. The suspect, an adult male, was evaluated on the scene and declined medical attention.
He will be booked on multiple charges, including unlawful flight and fleeing the scene of an accident. While impairment is suspected, it will not be confirmed until further tests are completed. Additionally, narcotic paraphernalia and a firearm were found inside the suspect’s vehicle. The incident underscores the dangers of high-speed pursuits and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to ensure public safety.
