San Diego Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a tragic shooting that left two men dead in the Barrio Logan area on the night of September 14, 2024. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Newton Avenue, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Upon arrival, officers discovered two Hispanic males suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, the first victim, identified as 28-year-old Osnaider Silveira, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim, 23-year-old Junior Alastre, was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Both men are believed to be recent immigrants from Venezuela, and their families are being notified.
Witnesses reported that Silveira, Alastre, and a third individual were near a parked vehicle when the suspect approached and opened fire. The shooter, described as a Hispanic male in his thirties with short hair and a full beard, fled the scene in a white 2012 Kia Forte belonging to one of the victims. Before leaving, he ordered a female passenger out of the car.
The Kia was later found in the Los Angeles area, occupied by a man matching the suspect’s description. With the assistance of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office, authorities apprehended 23-year-old Guillermo David Gonzalez of National City without incident on September 15. He has been booked into San Diego County Jail facing charges of two counts of murder, one count of carjacking, and one count of robbery.
