On September 11, 2024, at approximately 10:05 p.m., a significant fire broke out involving a car hauler on SR60 W near Gilman Springs Rd in Moreno Valley. California Highway Patrol, Riverside, and Cal Fire, Riverside County, swiftly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, emergency crews discovered that the car hauler trailer was fully engulfed in flames. The cab of the truck had become detached and moved away from the blaze.
The car hauler, which was transporting seven new cars, experienced a total loss of all vehicles. The fire produced several small explosions, primarily from the tires on the cars. This caused the westbound lanes of SR60 to be closed for approximately 20 minutes while firefighters worked to control the flames.
A SIG alert was issued for the area, initially set to last at least an hour. As of midnight, the alert remains in effect due to ongoing cleanup efforts. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
