At approximately 11:10 PM on August 29, 2024, a female Houston Police Department (HPD) officer was involved in a serious collision at the intersection of Southbound Sam Houston Feeder and Richmond Avenue in Houston. The officer, who was operating her patrol vehicle with the green light, was struck by an SUV that ran a red light.
The force of the collision caused significant damage to the patrol car. The SUV’s driver fled the scene on foot, abandoning the vehicle in a parking lot approximately half a block north of Richmond Avenue, on Rogerdale. Despite a thorough search of the area by officers, the suspect was not located.
The injured officer was transported to Memorial Katy Hospital and is currently in stable condition. The incident is being investigated as a Failure to Stop and Give Information (FSGI). The Harris County District Attorney’s office will determine if additional charges or an upgrade to a Failure to Stop and Render Aid (FSRA) is warranted. The investigation is ongoing.
