Fullerton, CA – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at approximately 3:11 PM at the intersection of West Commonwealth Avenue and Basque Avenue. Fullerton Police officers responded to the scene after reports of a collision involving a motorcyclist.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a male motorcyclist, severely injured, lying in the roadway. His black 2020 Harley Davidson was found pinned beneath a gray 2021 Toyota Rav 4. Despite the prompt response from Fullerton Fire, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Rav 4, a 47-year-old Fullerton resident, remained at the location and cooperated with the authorities.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident began when a white, compact SUV, traveling eastbound on Commonwealth Avenue, attempted to make a U-turn at Basque Avenue. This maneuver caused westbound traffic to come to an abrupt stop. The motorcyclist, traveling westbound on Commonwealth Avenue, tried to avoid the halted vehicles but was ejected from his motorcycle. He landed in the eastbound lanes, where the oncoming Toyota Rav 4 struck him.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclist is pending release by the Orange County Coroner’s Office, following notification of his next of kin. Investigators do not suspect that drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, and they believe no other vehicles were involved.
Fullerton Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this fatal collision to come forward. Witnesses with any information are encouraged to contact the Fullerton Police Department.
