On August 27, 2024, at approximately 11:36 p.m., Newport Beach police responded to a distressing scene involving a robbery and shots fired at Fashion Island, located at 401 Newport Center Drive. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the upscale shopping center and involved two distinct victims.
According to Lieutenant Mike Shiavi of the Newport Beach Police Department, the first victim, a man driving a Rolls Royce, was robbed at gunpoint. The suspects, identified as three men—one of whom was armed with a handgun—managed to steal jewelry from the Rolls Royce driver before moving on to their next target.
The suspects then attempted to carjack a second victim, who was driving a Ferrari. The Ferrari driver managed to escape, but not before a window was shattered by gunfire. Although the Ferrari was left abandoned at a Chevron station located at 2546 East Coast Highway, it appears that no items were taken from this vehicle.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. The Newport Beach Police Department is currently investigating whether the two victims were acquainted. The search for the suspects is ongoing as authorities work to resolve this unsettling case.
