San Mateo, CA — A tense situation unfolded in San Mateo on Saturday afternoon when officers responded to reports of a violent altercation involving a knife and gun near 39th Avenue and Edison Street. The incident, which occurred around 3:00 PM, led to the arrest of at least one suspect who was initially transported to CHOPE Hospital for evaluation.
However, the situation escalated when the suspect managed to flee from the hospital. Officers quickly responded, pursuing the suspect on foot through nearby neighborhoods. With the assistance of a drone, authorities located the suspect hiding in the backyard of a residence. The suspect attempted to escape again, jumping fences and eventually climbing onto the roof of a nearby house.
Despite negotiations, the suspect refused to come down. Officers then used a ladder to access the roof and successfully apprehended the individual. The suspect was once again transported to CHOPE Hospital for further evaluation. The incident remains under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
