In the early hours of August 11, a serious traffic incident occurred on the northbound lanes of I-5 near Main Street in Chula Vista, leaving two people with critical injuries. The crash was initially reported by a medic unit that came across a stalled SUV, completely “blacked out” and blocking the #2 lane.
It remains unclear whether the medic unit remained on the scene to alert other drivers. Shortly after the initial report, a white car driven by a female motorist collided at high speed with the stalled SUV. The impact left the female driver trapped in her vehicle with significant injuries. After the collision, her vehicle continued down the highway before coming to a stop.
The male driver of the SUV was found in grave condition. Emergency responders immediately began administering CPR after pulling him from the wrecked vehicle. Firefighters and paramedics performed CPR for over 15 minutes before transporting him to a local hospital while still in CPR status.
Meanwhile, the female driver had to be extricated from her vehicle due to the severity of the crash. She was also transported to a nearby hospital with major injuries. The exact cause of the incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), who are working to determine whether any contributing factors, such as impaired driving or mechanical failure, played a role in the accident.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and remain alert while driving, especially in low-light conditions, to prevent similar accidents. The northbound lanes of I-5 were temporarily closed following the collision, causing significant traffic delays.
