A dramatic police pursuit unfolded on Monday evening in Long Beach, resulting in a serious collision involving robbery suspects and an innocent driver. The incident began when the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) initiated a pursuit of a black BMW suspected of being involved in a robbery.
As the suspects attempted to evade the police, the driver of the BMW ran a red light at the intersection of 4th Street and Cherry Avenue. This reckless maneuver resulted in a collision with another vehicle, causing significant damage and bringing the pursuit to a temporary halt.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assist the occupants of both vehicles. The suspect passenger in the BMW was trapped inside the wrecked vehicle and had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life. The individual was subsequently arrested and transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.
The driver of the BMW, who attempted to flee on foot following the crash, was apprehended by LBPD officers a short distance away on 4th Street. Both suspects are now in police custody as the investigation into the robbery and subsequent pursuit continues.
Authorities are currently working to gather more information about the robbery and the suspects involved. The identity of the innocent driver involved in the crash has not been released, and it is unclear at this time whether they sustained any injuries.
The LBPD is urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward as they continue their investigation into the events leading up to the pursuit and crash.
