San Bernardino, CA – In the early hours of July 28, 2024, a devastating traffic collision occurred on the Westbound 210 Freeway, just east of Riverside Avenue, resulting in the tragic deaths of three individuals.
At approximately 2:43 AM, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), along with San Bernardino County Fire, Rialto Fire, and American Medical Response (AMR), responded to reports of a vehicle rollover engulfed in flames. Upon arrival, CHP officers discovered a single vehicle down the right shoulder embankment, completely ablaze.
During their initial assessment, officers located an ejected victim near the burning vehicle. Bravely, they pulled the victim away from the fire and immediately began life-saving measures. San Bernardino County Fire crews soon arrived, providing medical treatment and working to extinguish the fire.
Despite their efforts, the victim, later identified as a 19-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital in critical condition with CPR in progress but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
Tragically, two additional victims, a 57-year-old woman and her 18-year-old son, were also ejected from the vehicle and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Firefighters conducted a thorough search of the area using thermal imaging cameras to ensure no other victims were present, confirming no additional individuals were involved in the crash.
According to a witness, the vehicle initially collided with the center divider before crossing all lanes of the freeway and ultimately careening over the right shoulder embankment, where it burst into flames.
CHP is currently investigating the cause of the crash, seeking to understand the events that led to this heartbreaking incident.
