In the early hours of July 24, a dramatic and lengthy pursuit of an armed suspect, which began in Deer Park, concluded in southwest Houston. The incident began around 1:30 AM at the intersection of Creekbend and Ashcroft.
Baytown Police Department initiated the chase after the suspect shot a 16-year-old during a carjacking in Deer Park approximately three hours prior. The suspect fled north from Baytown onto US90, heading inbound towards 610 South, and then crossed the Ship Channel Bridge.
Precinct 8 units took over the pursuit as the suspect entered Clear Lake, before heading back into the South Central area near Highway 288. The suspect temporarily evaded capture, but K9 officers from the Houston Police Department (HPD) later located him near Bellfort.
The chase resumed with the assistance of HPD’s aerial unit, HPD Fox. It ended when the suspect crashed into parked cars and a detached garage. Remarkably, the suspect was uninjured and was taken into custody.
Deer Park investigators are collaborating with the HPD and will be coordinating with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine the charges against the suspect.
